"We suffer from an incurable disease: hope." ~ Mahmoud Darwish
Be the Change
I wish
all the love I have for my son
could form a shield
a dome of warmth and will
above the families of Gaza.
I wish
the rage in my chest
could tear through Israel’s blockade
a bulldozer of will
clearing a path
for the aid to flood in.
I wish
the knot of dread in my throat
would rise instead
to strangle the liars
who choose death
for children.
I wish
the hope in my soul
could be proven real
that the good prevail
that everything
is about to change.

I wish these things too Jodi. I have recently submitted a writing project inspired by my experience growing up in Israel to the CALQ and it was rejected. I am so heartbroken. I thought it was a solid, and unique proposal. I wanted to address the conflict from this perspective. Just telling you that Gaza is very much on my mind.
May your hope and love and rage add to the energy that will make those children safe. 🙏 Thanks for writing this. I love how open and emotional Mahdi's work is and my thoughts are with him for his safety and future.
